Last week a few of my friends from Dreame shared info MI Cordless Dust Mite Controller now available in the form of crowdfunding. Clicking on it and learning all round, I found the design favorable and did not hesitate to reserve one for research.

In configuration, it is complete with six cells and a brushless motor of 80,000 rpm that makes possible suction power 16KPA. Other highlights are multi-cone cyclone separation and dehumidification through PTC hot air circling.

The best of its kind in hardware configuration and concise in exterior design, this model also has an edge in price, though not on a par with other MI products crowdfunded that are always priced half of those of rivals.

To date, 30,000 units have been crowdfunded just before I took up the pen.

Speaking of the dust mite remover, I am just puzzled at whether this category will exist in the future.

Developed by Raycop, or “瑞卡富” in Chinese, a Korean business founded by a doctor, it was an unprecedented 1-in-3 product of UV lamp, vibrator and vacuum, a big success of that year.

In home market, Bobbot was the first provider, with one million units sold in peak time, once considered synonymous with Dust Mite Controller. Before long more followers entered into the market, making the product classified into a separate category instead of a subdivision of vacuum.

In the cordless era, Puppy was an early developer, though initially priced high. Just now I checked and found its current cordless price stays at RMB549.

You will mostly find home brands when typing in “cordless dust mite controller” on Taobao.com.

This reflects the biggest problem in this realm that there is no solid cornerstone.

UV lamp and vibrant beater are central to a dust mite controller. Makers always advertise 99.99% mites and bacteria killing effect in attached reports issued by certification agencies, without making clear the premise of working 30 minutes at least in a fixed spot.

And UV lamp does harm to a person exposed to its direct light.

Hence none of global brands such as Dyson, Electrolux, Philips, Shark, Bissell, Samsung, LG are committed to dust mite controller making and promotion, simply because the same effect, if advertised overseas, may be complained about. This product now mainly targets China, Japan and South Korea.

Anyhow this category is too popular to be overlooked in these markets except the fact that it is likely to be replaced by cordless vacuum bit by bit.

Dyson once rolled out V7 Mattress. It boasted exceptional capturing of dust mite and allergen owing to strong suction enabled by a brushless motor of 100,000 rpm, now a standard feature of home-made cordless vacuums.

In this way, a cordless vacuum can be used as a mite remover to a great extent, let alone a separate mite removing nozzle can be added for more specialized cleanup. Moreover, its price is all the way declining, likely to go down from current RMB1299 to RMB1599, to the level of RMB799 to RMB999. As such, why spend RMB 599 to buy a product of same functions?
